Reaching out to Central New York in the name of Jesus Christ

A Word for Today

How large, how heavy is the burden of sin? How wide, how crushing is the burden of hopelessness?

Cast Your Burden Upon the Lord

Psalm 55:22  Cast your burden upon the Lord and he shall sustain thee, He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

According to a recent poll, you may be like the 68% of our nation who feel everything is out of control, who feel burdened by an unknown future.  The Bible teaches us that God is in control of the future and that we can entrust the future to Him.

In the Old Testament we see God’s people with no land of their own, living under the whip of cruel Egyptian taskmasters.  The hopelessness of God’s people was heavier on their backs than the bricks they were forced to manufacture for their overlords.  But God loved those slaves and sent His servant Moses to deliver them by the use of awe-inspiring signs and wonders.

In the New Testament we learn of a very religious and disciplined man named Saul.  He hated the new Christian faith and went on a journey to arrest as many followers of Christ as he could before their faith spread to others.  But his plan was totally overthrown by the same Jesus he was persecuting.   The risen Son of God Jesus blinded Saul temporarily with a bright light, leaving him trembling and astonished.  Saul probably never trembled or was astonished before in his life.  His future was so well mapped out!  What was happening?  He never before imagined that he was a chosen servant of Jesus Christ, but he was!  He was destined, not only to be forgiven for his sins against God, but to become one of the greatest Christians in history with a new name, the Apostle Paul.

Are you burdened by the unknown?  Do you feel that everything is out of control because of the COVID-19 virus?  Maybe you are in bondage, not to a country like the Hebrews were, but to a slave-driver of a different sort — sin.  You may feel hopeless like they did.  Or maybe you are like the Apostle Paul who was actually fighting God even though he thought of himself as religious.

Jesus Christ loves you as much as Paul or the slaves of Egypt.  He will forgive you.  You can begin a new, God-ordained journey with Him.  He has a wonderful plan for your future.  Jesus can lift the burden of the unknown from you and give you the peace that you desire.  Surrender your life to Him today.
