Matthew 6:27,34 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?…Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
We tend to worry so much about everything, don’t we? We worry about the threat of nuclear war, we worry about cancer, we worry about our jobs and how we will live… we might even get anxious about whether the cat will like the new cat food!
And now with COVID-19, we have a new set of worries. What if I get the virus? Is that person six feet away from me? Why doesn’t she have her mask on? Why isn’t he wearing gloves? Oh no, somebody coughed – get the disinfectant!! Do we have enough toilet paper?! The worrying can be more stressful than the virus itself.
Of course, we should be concerned about where we will spend eternity and how best to prepare for the Kingdom of Heaven, but Jesus tells us not to worry. Nowhere in the Bible are we encouraged to worry! Can worrying add to our lives? Does worry about tomorrow make problems not come? Today’s issues are already enough for us.
Think back in life. Hasn’t the Lord been so good to us? He has been ready 24/7 to assist us when we call upon Him! He has provided our every need, healed us when we were sick, comforted us when we were troubled, encouraged us, strengthened us, and lifted our heads when we were discouraged. There has been no situation too big for Him to handle. It doesn’t get better than that!
The old song says, “Don’t worry, be happy,” but our motto should be, “Don’t worry, seek Jesus!”
