Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord.
Oh, how I am loving getting back into the house of the Lord, aren’t you? We’ve been away for two and a half months, but it feels like it has been so much longer! Oh, to be in the place where Jesus has placed His name!
Yes, it is wonderful to see my brethren, who are like family to me. Yes, it is wonderful to get back to some sense of normalcy. But the truth of the matter is that these things are secondary reasons for being in church.
I love being back in the house of the Lord because this is the place Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit have established. This is the place of salvation for the sinner and strength for the saint! This is the place where God has His way and works on us! This is the place where healing takes place, where the gifts of the Spirit are in operation, and where you can come in one way, but leave permanently impacted by the will of God.
Sure, these things can occur in the presence of the Lord, even at home. But there is something special about being assembled together for worship and prayer.
People have often asked, “Why do you go to church so often?” Well, first off, THIS is not church as many might think of church. THIS is alive, invigorating, and exciting! THIS is where one gets strengthened and encouraged and quickened in his or her inner person.
Second, I love assembling together because I never know what God is going to do in a given meeting. What if the Lord’s Spirit sweeps over the congregation, creating an almost tangible sense of awe? What if a sinner receives salvation? What if it is someone’s day to be healed of an affliction? I want to make sure I am there when these things happen! I don’t want to find out second-hand! Additionally, what if it is MY day to have Jesus fill me with His Spirit? One thing is certain, I will only find out what the Lord has in store for the church if I’m there to be part of it!
