Reaching out to Central New York in the name of Jesus Christ

A Word for Today

Graduation Day signifies the conclusion of one stage of life, and looking toward the next stage with great anticipation.

Graduation Day

Due to the COVID-19 virus, many people have opted to have special “drive by” parades as a means of honoring the graduating class of 2020. My daughter was very appreciative when the faculty from Living Word Academy stopped by our house to personally congratulate her as she wrapped up her senior year of high school.

I have to admit, it was really moving to watch this celebration unfold in my front yard and driveway.  Faculty assembled in the front yard with signs, balloons, and gifts.  They came over to hug my daughter and give her kudos for graduating. Big smiling faces said, “Way to go!” “Congratulations!” “You made it!” and “Now, you will start a new journey!”

One of the definitions of the word graduate is “to pass from one stage of experience, proficiency, or prestige to a usually higher one.” Doesn’t this remind you of how heaven will be someday? Christians are all in line waiting to “graduate” from this stage of experience to a higher one in heaven.

If I use my imagination, I picture multitudes of angels and saints offering hugs and smiles as they rejoice over those who have repented from sin, have overcome the trials of life, and have graduated into heaven.  I imagine them shouting things like “Hallelujah! You made it!” “Way to go! Congratulations! Praise the Lord!” The best congratulations will be to hear our Lord Jesus Christ say, Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matthew 25:21 NKJV)

No doubt, the Lord Himself will bestow gifts upon the graduates.  In place of a cap and gown, the Bible tells us we will be given white robes and a crown of life! Instead of graduates tossing their caps into the air to celebrate their accomplishments, we will cast our crowns at Jesus’ feet to celebrate HIS accomplishments!

What a day that will be! Graduation day will definitely be something for Christians to celebrate!
