Colossians 2:9-10 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.
I’m am sure you have heard of the expression, “He has the got the whole package.” Meaning that person has the looks, charisma, and smarts to be successful. Oftentimes, we can find ourselves emulating these characteristics. If we self-reflect on areas of our lives what would we find? Do we feel satisfied? Do we feel complete and accomplished? Who are we emulating?
In Colossians, Paul gives us an impressive list of attributes for Jesus Christ. Jesus is the following: The Creator. The Sustainer of all things. The head of the church. Preeminent in all things. He is fully God. He is our Redeemer. What a list, praise the Lord! No doubt, comparatively speaking, we need help. In fact, Paul says in Col. 1:21 that prior to salvation, we were alienated and an enemy of God and Jesus Christ.
You may think, I can never match what Jesus has. And you will be right. But the amazing thing is that with reconciliation you don’t have to match Jesus, because you are inevitably linked with Him. Our lives and destinies are His—our identification with Him is total. We are not just reconciled; we are with Him in all things.
Paul lists in chapters 2-3 in Colossians the following links with Jesus: We are buried with him in baptism. We are quickened together (made alive) with him. We are no longer dead in our sins. We are risen with him. Our life is hid with Christ in God. To be hidden in Christ is to be totally immersed, covered, our sins concealed, our identity masked within His – remade more like HIs. God accepts Christ and us, as well, as we are hidden in Him.
Satisfaction, feeling accomplished, being completed, all come by being hid in Jesus. A joy of salvation is in realizing our scripture above, that we are complete in Him. This completeness comes not by righteous works or soulish endeavors, but by Jesus’ blood on our lives. In Jesus, you have the whole package to overcome in life and be with Him in glory!
