The Gospel was not “Leaked”

2 Peter 1:16   For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

In these verses, Peter rejects the use of codes, special agents, double meanings, secret information, conspiring secret societies, or anonymous sources. Peter assures us that cleverly piecing together a revelation from a few scant details that have been leaked from a back room, is NOT the basis of the Good News about Jesus Christ.

Peter and the other apostles were eyewitnesses. The connection between Jesus Christ and the prophecies of the Old Testament is public information. I suppose, if Peter were alive today, he would warn us: if the suffix “-Anon” has to be attached to it, meaning anonymous, we should not trust the source.

The news of Jesus Christ – this real Person – has not been “leaked” by a secret source. He is alive, at the right hand of God’s throne, and He is a sure foundation for us in a world that is being tortured by misinformation on the Internet. The record of His existence, His death, His resurrection, and His ascension are all part of public record and ready to withstand any examination. We can believe the prophecies yet to come because of the prophecies He has already fulfilled.

We should avoid the psychological drive to pursue “personal specialness” by versing ourselves in the latest conspiracy theory about CORONA, election 2020, or the Illuminati. We have already been made special by Jesus Christ. Peter said,

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Our first call is to give praise to our Lord. Our energy should be so consumed by praising the Lord there should be little energy left for diving down Internet rabbit holes that lead to the fictional worlds of conspiracy theorists.
