A Word for Today

Peace in the Storm

Peace for the believer in the middle of it all…

Luke 21:9 “But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”

One of God’s great comforts to His people is that He has told us ahead of time about the troubles swirling around us, giving tremendous prophetic details of earthly events. To people without faith, these events take them by surprise and the surprise leads to their “commotions.” The Greek word for commotion means “confusion, instability, disturbance and a state of disorder.”

Seen anyone confused, instable, disturbed and disordered lately?

Since believers in Christ have the “inside track” through the Bible on so many of the events of the End Times from wars and commotions, to the rise of China, to pestilence (like COVID), to rising seas, to changes in the weather patterns, etc., we do not have to be “terrified.” Instead can have great peace even in the midst of the troubles in our world. God believes in forewarning and forearming.

In fact, knowledge of these events, through God’s Word, and seeing them come to pass, actually can build our faith in God and the promises of His Word. He is faithful.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:27,33 NKJV).

The Prince of Peace, Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the returning King Jesus, has it all in His Mighty yet Tender hands. With this comfort, the kindness of His forewarning, we can keep trusting Him in the midst of the storm.
