Matthew 28:6 (NLT) He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.
There are many reasons to believe Jesus rose from the grave on the third day of His death.
For instance, He was seen by many credible witnesses, including, in order: Mary Magdalene; three other women named Mary, Salome, and Joanna; Bible writers Peter, John, Matthew, and James the brother of Jesus; a group of over five hundred people at once; and Paul. These eye-witness accounts are found in multiple documents, such as, 1 Corinthians and the four Gospels, each having a different writer.
The circumstances for each witness are important. For example, women saw the risen Christ first. No one in the first century would fabricate such a story if they wanted it to be believed because the testimony of women was not respected in that culture. So the account is actually more likely to be true! Another example of reverse bias is James, who was a known cynic concerning His older brother Jesus. His testimony of seeing the risen Christ is more likely to be true because it represents a total reversal of his position. Then there was Paul. He was a Christ-hater and church-destroyer. So his stunning conversion and his proclamation that the risen Christ appeared to him are both surprising and all the more believable.
Here’s another bit of evidence for the resurrection: Peter caused a sensation in Jerusalem when he proclaimed that he and many others had seen the risen Christ. This was the same Jerusalem where Jesus, only weeks before, had been hated, killed, and buried. It was the city where the Christian faith was violently opposed. Someone in Jerusalem could easily destroy the newborn Jesus movement by merely producing the dead body of Christ. No one did it, strongly implying that no one could do it.
A few hundred persecuted people began a Jesus movement that would spread over the world! How could it be? It seems the resurrection of Jesus is one essential explanation.
And how can you go on fearlessly serving Jesus Christ in 2021 and go on boldly proclaiming the Gospel in the secular environment of Central New York? You can because your faith is founded on the greatest event in the history of the world, the resurrection of God’s Son!
Oh, Lord, help us to serve You fearlessly, with full confidence that You have power over life and death-
